We have been living at our farm since 2014. We started mixed farming. Pigs, chickens, sheep, produce, firewood. All of it. I was good at growing produce. Each year i would do more of what makes money and ditch what didn’t make money. Since 2016 I’ve been full time growing produce. Always pushing for more. It kind of turned into a grinder. Covid didn’t help, I opened up all sorts of channels to keep the produce flowing. Last season i had 3 full time employees doing 5 market days, a csa, preorders and wholesale to 4 restaurants.
After the 2023 season ended i came to the conclusion that i had met all the goals i had set for myself and didn’t see myself working 12 hour days 6 days a week and half a day on Sunday anymore. Time to get my time back. The time goal is to work mon-fri 8-4. Weekends off, time with my kids. Diversify my operation.
We are trialing calves this summer. If successful we are going to build a herd.
We are in the planning stages of starting a flock of Dorper sheep. probably 10 ewes and a ram.
Our farm as it is now is an acre and a half of established low till market garden beds. 66 acres of workable/ pasture land with not much fencing
My wife is a nurse and we have 6 amazing children ranging from 10-19 years old.
